👋 Hi, I’m Giuseppe

I am a Senior Product Engineer specializing in back-end development with a strong focus on Extreme Programming, clean code, and scalable architectures. Currently, I play a key role in the Search domain at lastminute.com, where I design and maintain systems that handle over 50 million calls per day.

I am passionate about continuous learning, whether it’s mastering a new cloud technology or analyzing football data through scouting methodologies.

Senior Product Engineer @ lastminute.com

2017 – Present | Remote, Italy

In my years at lastminute.com, I have evolved from maintaining core products to defining the architecture of the Transportation domain (flight, train, and bus).

Microservices & Architecture: Successfully led the transition from monolithic systems to a message-driven microservices architecture.
Impact: Led the integration of a major partner that now accounts for 30% of total bookings.
Technical Stack: Advanced use of Java and Kotlin with Spring Boot, managing high-traffic systems with RabbitMQ, Redis, DynamoDB, and MySQL.
Reliability: Focused on system observability using Prometheus and Graphite to maintain low response times and high availability.

BackEnd Java Developer @ Waynaut

2014 – 2017 | Milan, Italy

At Waynaut, I was part of a pioneering team building a multimodal travel platform from scratch, which was eventually acquired by the lastminute.com group.

Algorithmic Core: Developed and maintained the core routing engine based on the A* (A-star) shortest path algorithm using a reactive programming approach.
API Orchestration: Integrated various external supplier APIs (REST/SOAP) including Trenitalia, Kiwi.com, and BusBud.
Foundation: Built services using Java, Spring, MySQL, and MongoDB, deployed on AWS.

Beyond the IDE, I cultivate a diverse range of interests that keep my mind sharp and curious:

Football Talent Scout: I am a certified SICS Talent Scout (“Osservatore Calcistico”). I enjoy identifying talent through data-driven methodologies and professional reporting.
Comic Book Collector: My house is literally full of comics. I am a huge fan of Batman and an avid reader of both DC/Marvel universes and Manga.
History Buff: I have a deep passion for history and spend much of my free time reading books that explore different eras and civilizations.
